Aviation Organizations
1.
What associations will it be important to belong
to when you are employed and engaged on your career path? Identify at least two
organizations.
Two organizations that I came across that I thought would be
important to belong to was, AirlineApps.Com and the National Association of
Flight Instructors (NAFI). These organizations seem to benefit the front end of a
pilot’s career and really help a pilot stay focused and organized.
2.
Research the associations that you identified.
Discuss the mission and functions of each association. Also, discuss the role
of these organizations in the overall industry, including their support for
other sectors of the industry.
AirlineApps.com is an organization that helps pilots submit
applications to multiple airlines. This organization offers applicants and
airline employers a service that creates a balance between the needs of the
pilots and the requirements of major hiring departments. There are various
enhanced features such as individual data analysis for targeted airline
minimums and advanced resume-printing options which gives members a competitive
edge for hiring consideration. If you become a member you receive added
benefits not available to free applicants. The cost of membership is $64.95 per
year. This service was created by pilots for pilots. After completing a single application,
you now have the ability to send that one application to several airlines, and
have unlimited access to update your information until hired. This organization
is focused on pilots and employers only. They do not post any jobs for anyone
else in the aviation industry, such as maintenance personal or flight
attendants.
The National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) is an
U.S. professional organization for flight instructors, founded in 1967. This
association is dedicated to “raising and maintaining the professional standing
of the flight instructor in the aviation community.” If one becomes a member
you will receive a bi-monthly publication of Mentor Magazine, that has
technical information, the latest FAA regulations, and fundamentals of
instruction. A member will also have access to a list of endorsements that
provides example endorsements for instructors to use with students and customers.
The Flying Magazine is provided to all NAFI members. The website is filled with
information for flight instructors. All members are listed on a searchable
database that will bring students right to the flight instructor’s email. There
is a members-only area, where you can look for job opportunities, and can also
post job openings for yourself or for your employer. A member also receives
provider discounts from places such as ASA, Avemco, Bose, Cloud ahoy,
Foreflight, King Schools, Pilot partner, Sporty’s Pilot Shop, Sun-n-Fun,
Lightspeed, and AeroGold.com. This organization represents the flight
instructor community so it is specific to the needs of that section of the
aviation industry. Membership cost $49.00 per year.
3.
Discuss why it is important for you to belong to
these associations.
I feel it is important to belong to AirlineApps.Com because
it is a great tool to stay organized and gives a pilot the ability to stay focused on the
minimums that are required to apply to the airline that they are interested in.
By having the application saved through this online application, you can work
on it anywhere. A pilot can also print out the application while on
the road, from any print shop, if an unexpected opportunity came along. (You never know who you might meet!)
It is important to belong to the NAFI because a majority of
pilot’s first jobs will be flight instructing. I also feel that being a flight
instructor is one of the hardest jobs in the aviation industry, so having
support and ongoing training tools available, is a useful resource. This association
is job specific to flight instructors, but is motivating,
inspiring and provides the learning tools that would cost you money anyways if
you went out and bought instructing material, so why not network through a
national association with great benefits. The website provides ongoing training
with a live streaming webinar every third Wednesday of each month. The
presentations qualify for the FAA Wings Pilot Proficiency Program.
4.
Describe potential employment opportunities with
these organizations.
The greatest potential for employment opportunity from
AirlineApps.Com is the ability to have 22 airline companies available to submit your
application to them the moment you are ready to do so. Delta uses this
organization for pilot applications and this made me feel confident about their
abilities. Also, by becoming a member a pilot can be proactive and start
working on the application, so hopefully the process will not be as
overwhelming and scary.
As for the National Association of Flight Instructors, by
being a member there is the opportunity to connect flight instructors with
potential student pilots.
Organizations and associations always have the potential for
a person to make many new and lasting connections that can lead to employment
opportunities. The more you participate in organizations the more possibilities
you open yourself up to.

Great blog, being apart of AirlineApps.Com really offers a lot for just 65$ a year. From reading your blog they offer great services, and anyone who is planning on becoming a pilot should definitely look into it.
ReplyDeleteThis was a very interesting post to read. Joining AirlineApps sounds like it could be very beneficial to any young aspiring aviator. Getting an application out to multiple airlines at once would be an invaluable tool. Having multiple airlines interested in you at once could provide several unique opportunities that you otherwise may have not known were available to you before. Joining NAFI would also be extremely beneficial. Being in a association that allows you to get in contact with several different flight instructors would be amazing. Anything from getting advice on teaching students to job opportunities could potentially happen in NAFI, according to your posting.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, I was not familar with AirlineApps until reading this. It seems like a simplest way to apply to all the airlines, which is a good idea once someone meets the hiring requirements. NAFI is a really good organization. At Oshkosh 2017, I went to a few of the NAFI forums and learned what I could about Strategic vs. Tactical IFR and flight instructing. They seemed like they were very well organized and made me want to join.
ReplyDeleteVery informative post. I saw a lot of stuff on here that I haven't known about, so thank you for showing those. It seems like you're geared towards flying in the airlines as a career. There are so many new organizations that are linking everyone together in every division of every part of the industry.
